Honey Soy Pork MeatballsĀ 

They’re quick to prep, full of flavour, and feel like a little homemade takeaway treat. These meatballs are soft, juicy, and coated in a glossy sweet-savoury honey soy glaze. Make the meatballs and coat them in this simple sauce. Then let the slow cooker do its thing while you get on with your day.

These ingredients are very simple and accessible. Just be prepared to get your hands dirty! Once you’ve mixed the pork mince, ginger paste, breadcrumbs, egg, sesame oil and a pinch of salt, roll them into even meatballs. If you have time, I recommend chilling them in the fridge for 30+ minutes to help them hold their shape. You could even make these the night before and leave in the fridge for the morning.

The sauce ingredients – soy sauce, honey, mirin, water and garlic – are mixed together and then thrown into the slow cooker with the meatballs. Then let the slow cooker do the work. The low heat over time keeps the meatballs tender and allows the sauce to develop that sticky-sweet glaze.

By the end of the slow cook, the meatballs will be juicy and coated in the glossy honey soy sauce. Serve over fluffy rice, with tenderstem broccoli and edamame beans on the side, and finish with a scattering of sesame seeds.

Make it your own:
  • Switch the meat:Ā Pork mince is classic here, but chicken, turkey or beef all work — just adjust the cooking time slightly (poultry tends to cook faster).
  • Add a kick:Ā Fancy some heat? Stir in a pinch of chilli flakes or a spoonful of sriracha for a spicy twist.
  • Boost the veg:Ā Grate in a bit of carrot or courgette (squeeze out the excess water first) for extra texture and to sneak in some vegetables.
