Slow Cooker Vanilla Spiced Poached Pears

This recipe is so simple. Just a few ingredients. It’s great to put it on just before you start cooking your evening dinner. That way, when you’re finished and ready for a sweet treat. We recommend cooking on high for 1.5-2 hours, but if you go over it won’t matter too much. If your slow cooker has a keep warm setting, then you can always utilise that.
As well as tasting lovely – the cinnamon, star anise and vanilla will make your house smell amazing. It’s a real winter spice aroma – perfect around Christmas time. If you’ve got some whole cloves to hand, then you can throw them in there too.

Slow Cooker Vanilla Spiced Poached Pears
Equipment
- 1 Slow Cooker
Ingredients
- 4 Pears peeled
- 1 litre Water Or enough to cover the pears
- 100 g Granulated sugar
- 1.5 tbsp Vanilla extract
- 2 Cinnamon sticks
- 1 Star Anise
- Juice of half a lemon
Instructions
- Carefully peel the pears, leaving the storks in place.
- Cut the bottom of the pears so that they can be served stood up later. Optionally prick the pears gently several times so the flavour can permeate the pears.
- In the slow cooker, cover the pears with water. Add sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon sticks and star anise.
- Cook for 1.5-2 hours on high or until soft.
- Carefully remove. Sprinkle the pears with ground cinnamon or cocoa powder. Serve with ice cream.
